Saint John did not actually take any records from the RC churches. All RC parish churches are required to send copies of their records to the diocese - they do not sent the actual registers (as far as I know). Each church still has the information at the church as well as they often have need of it. I believe copies are sent to the diocese to help preserve the information. It's the same with most other individual churches of other denominations who have a ruling body over them.
For example, Chatham RC Church was once under the diocese of Quebec, then Chatham was a diocese in itself, then the diocese changed to Bathurst and for a time it was headquartered in Charlottetown, PEI and now it's in Saint John. Records were always sent to the diocese, but I don't know how often (or how). It's just one of those things. And, probably a good thing when you think of all the fires that have occurred over the years. There would be nothing left if there hadn't been copies made.
I have made an enquiry into the Historical Society in Blackville. Information should be coming soon. But, if you've already contacted them, I guess it won't do much good, will it?
Good luck with your search. If we can help in any way, don't hesitate to contact us again.
